A Day in the Life of a Coal Miner

· This is a remarkable account on “A Day in the Life of a Coal Miner.”

· Two films, one from the 1910’s and the other from the 1950’s.

· Witness first hand a miner at home sitting cosy in his home with his wife in front of the coal fire. He then leaves for work and does his shift, but we then see what else he and his family would do during a day. We see many leisure activities that they would enjoy and the memories will come flooding back if you remember the 1950’s.

· A superb film that is accompanied by a film from the 1910’s. Extremely rare archive footage from the Wigan area. We see the miner leave for work and kiss his wife and daughter goodbye. We then witness first hand everything to do with mining from that decade.

· We also witness women working on the surface in deplorable conditions. We see them pushing pit tubs around and the tubs being emptied. They work in the stock yard filling tubs with pit props for the miners underground. What is also witnessed is young boys doing the same work and arriving at the surface from working underground.

· Overall this DVD is a must have for anyone interested in coal mining or even just history in general.
