The North at War

We look in detail at what happened in the North of England during World War II.

We begin our story with what caused the outbreak of the War and the War itself.

We witness first hand the evacuation of children from Tyneside to the country. We then witness the devastation caused by German aircraft as they bombed our cities and towns, which included, Newcastle upon Tyne, South Shields, North Shields, and Gateshead.

As the War draws to a close we witness the horrors that occurred and then the VE-Day parties from around the North of England, which include, Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, North Shields, South Shields, Choppington, Ashington, Newbiggin, Stakeford, and Bedlington.

There is also bonus footage. This footage is very rare indeed and it was confiscated by the Allied forces from the Germans when they liberated Warsaw. It shows the Germans invading Poland in 1939 and was filmed by the Germans. It is a part of history that we must remember., and of course how we in the North had to cope with life during World War II.
