A DRIFT MINE AT WORK

£4.99

In this DVD we look at coal mining in a drift mine and see how coal was extracted the old fashioned way and brought to the surface.

We witness first hand the miner extracting coal and filling the tubs.

Also the ponies pulling the full tubs to the bottom of the drift, where they eventually get the tubs to the surface by hauler.

Coal mining in the early days was a very hard and demanding life, but the miner gave his all to bring a wage home to keep his family.

When a miner filled a tub his tally number was on the tub, and we witness this and his coal getting weighed and recorded by the keeker.

We also witness the waste getting disposed on the colliery heap.

Altogether, this is remarkable and superb footage and well documented.

This DVD is a must-have for anyone interested in coal mining and will grace your DVD collection.

The DVD is very educational too and will give an insight into the remarkable world of a drift mine at work.

BONUS FOOTAGE.

In this bonus footage from 1973, we visit Westoe Colliery in the North-East of England. We witness first hand young miners travelling to the coal face and see a mechanised coal face in operation.

We begin the journey on the surface and visit the winding room, the pit cage, man-riding conveyors, ect.

Enjoy!
