North Shields in Old Picture Postcards

£3.49

This book of archive historical old postcards shows very rare images of North Shields, Tyne and Wear in the UK. They are gathered from Old Postcards, Edwardian and Victorian vintage photos which have been enhanced and restored.

The photographs show life in North Shields in the 19th and early 20th century. On the surface it looked quite affluent but there were two levels of living, those who had and those who had not. The magnificent Victorian buildings showing prosperity but down the ladder life was very hard for the poor.

The seaside holiday and photography developed together. As holidays became increasingly popular, the number of photographs offered for sale as memories of the annual week by the coast grew enormously.

When the art of colouring photographs became available in the late1890s, the coloured holiday photographic print, and later the picture postcard really took off through coloured photographs covering all the resorts around England’s coast.

Take a look at your hometown old photos and see how much it has changed in the past hundred years.
