In this fascinating archive footage the world of the miners' picnic, held every summer, is brought back to life: the brass bands, the bright colliery banners,  the speeches that seemed to go on and on, and the funfairs, which everyone enjoyed.

The Northumberland Miners' Picnic was not only held in Bedlington, but Morpeth and Ashington.
